Ellen's Christmas Gift Guide - Day Eight

Level Ground Trading Co

(1) Chai, (2) Ceylon Cinnamon, (3) Winter Coffee, (4) Dried Banana, (5) Dried Mango

In our home, we really want to choose fair trade when we can, and where it makes sense. Coffee and tea are two of those areas that really make sense (and chocolate – you already know I love and buy good amounts of fair trade chocolate!). And jewelry, too!

Level Ground, our favourite Fair Trade coffee company, sent me some samples to try out. We love the coffee – it’s an obvious pick. Perfect for gift-giving or just for your own coffee at home! New to me was the Level Ground Chai – and it’s DELICIOUS. So flavourful, so pretty in little tea pyramids, and so fragrant.

The dried fruit – mango and banana – are amazing, and I love their dried pineapple. Fabulous little gifts, and unique to tuck into a stocking or gift basket! We’re using the Level Ground Ceylon cinnamon – which is real, fresh cinnamon, not loaded with fillers – in our baking this weekend. So worth buying the good stuff – which has been ethically sourced, directly from the farmers who produce and prepare it.

There’s a great recipe I make every year with Level Ground vanilla beans – you can find the easy-peasy treat in my Christmas recipe guide (see the “P.S.” below), or right here!

And, to make my west-coast heart happy, Level Ground just happens to be located in Victoria, BC.

About Level Ground:

Level Ground Trading Co

Our mission is to trade fairly and directly with small-scale producers in developing countries, offering customers ethical choices. In 1997, four families came together with the idea of improving the lives of disadvantaged producers through trade. We were inspired by the work of Ten Thousand Villages and were keen to see the principles of Fair Trade applied to foods we consume every day.

Level Ground’s first Fair Trade initiative was buying coffee from a cooperative in Colombia. Fair Trade premiums are directed to educational scholarships in the coffee growing region and the project has grown to support 200 scholarships /year! We’ve loved watching amazing students grow up to become incredible professionals including doctors, agronomists & social workers. From there… lots happened! To learn more about Level Ground, click here.
